JSTOR Plant Science

CUNY has a trial through the end of 2011 to JSTOR Plant Science, the largest online database of plant type specimens (over 800,000 as of July 2010).   Included are plant type specimens, taxonomic structures, scientific literature, foundational reference works and books, correspondence, including handwritten letters and memorandum from the senior staff of the Royal Botanic Gardens from 1841 to 1928, and more than 20,000 paintings, photographs, drawings, and other images.

Research Centers Directory and Statistics Sources

As of July 14, the Graduate Center subscribes to the online versions of the 2010 editions of Gale’s Research Centers Directory and Statistics Sources.  Each entry in Research Centers Directory includes address, phone number, e-mail address, URL, description, size of staff, publications, scholarships, awards, etc.  Statistics Sources is a guide to current sources of factual quantitative information about more than 20,000 specific subjects, incorporating almost 135,000 citations and more than 1,600 sources. Provides the widest possible range of print and nonprint, published and unpublished, and electronic and other forms of U.S. and international statistical data on industrial, business, social, educational, financial, and other topics.  The Gale Directory Library interface searches both of these resources.  Perform an advanced search to search them separately.

New Gale Virtual Reference Titles

All of CUNY has access to 75 new titles and ten new editions of other titles in Gale Virtual Reference Library.  New titles include Ancient Greece,  Cambridge Encyclopedia of Child Development, Encyclopedia of Sexual Behavior and the Law, Encyclopedia of Mathematical Physics, Encyclopedia of Race, Ethnicity, and Society, Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Cultures, Latina Writers, Literature of the Caribbean, Magill’s Survey of World Literature, The Nineties in America, Queer America: A GLBT History of the 20th Century, and Understanding Islam and Muslim Traditions.  Most of these titles appear in the CUNY catalog or will soon.

Oxford Bibliographies Online

The Graduate Center has a trial through July 31 to Oxford Bibliographies Online, covering Atlantic history, the classics, criminology, Islamic studies, and philosophy.  The bibliographies are drawn from books, journals, and Web resources.

Islamic Resources Trial

The Graduate Center has trials through July 30 to Encyclopaedia of the Qur’an, a guide to the primary religious text for one-sixth of the world’s population, Encyclopedia of Arabic Language and Linguistics, Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Cultures, and Index Islamicus, a bibliography of publications in European languages on all aspects of Islam and the Muslim world.  Also available is Encyclopaedia Islamica, a guide to important themes, subjects, and personages related to Islam.  Because Encyclopaedia Islamica is in its early stages of development, only entries beginning with A are available.
