JSTOR V Collection

June 30, 2008

As of June 30, CUNY’s JSTOR subscription includes the JSTOR V Collection, offering 18 additional journals to the more than 900 already available. This collection will total 120 titles by the end of 2009. The newly available titles are The Bulletin of the Museum of Modern Art, Design Quarterly, Environmental History, Film History, Germanic Museum Review, The Hudson Review, Hypatia, Journal of Folklore Research, Journal of Modern Literature, Research in African Literatures, and Victorian Studies. As with all JSTOR titles, the most recent issues of ongoing journals are not available because of restrictions imposed by publishers. Check the Mina Rees Library’s list of available electronic journals to determine where the latest issues of these titles may be available.


Images of the American Civil War

The Graduate Center has a trial through June 13 to Images of the American Civil War: Photographs, Posters, and Ephemera, providing 1,400 images searchable by place, date, battle/campaign/event, setting, and photographer.


Grove Name Change

Grove Art and Grove Music are now Oxford Art Online and Oxford Music Online. In addition to Grove Art, Oxford Art Online includes The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms, Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, and The Oxford Companion to Western Art. In addition to Grove Music, Oxford Music Online includes The Oxford Companion to Music and The Oxford Dictionary of Music. Each of these resources may be searched separately or in combination.


International Index to Music Periodicals and International Index to Performing Arts

The Graduate Center has trials through April 18 to International Index to Music Periodicals Full Text and to International Index to Performing Arts Full Text. These databases are password protected, and the links will take you to a page where the passwords can be found.  International Index to Music Periodicals Full Text provides indexing and abstracting for over 430 international music periodicals, with full text from123.  International Index to Performing Arts Full Text indexes more than 240 international periodicals in drama, theater, musical theater, opera, dance, performance art, film, and television. Full text is available for 95 of these journals.


Humanities International Complete

The Graduate Center subscribes to Humanities Interational Complete, which includes the full text of 814 journals and indexes over 2,000 periodicals, books, and reference sources.

Avery and BHA

As of September 17, the Graduate Center subscribes to Avery Index and Bibliography of the History of Art.  The Avery Index includes 589,000 citations from 2,800 international journals from 1741 to the present. Topics covered include architecture, archaeology, historic preservation, interior design, urban design, and urban planning.  BHA includes over 650,000 bibiographic records from over 4,800 journals and other publications from 1973 to the present. Subjects indexed include the art of Europe and the Americas from the fourth century to the present, painting, sculpture, drawings, prints, decorative and applied arts, popular and folk art, architecture and industrial design, and film.


CAMIO database trial

The GC now has a trial subscription to CAMIO, a collection of 90,000 digital images representing the collections of many prominent museums.  Included are works owned by the Frick Collection, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Victoria & Albert Museum.  The trial runs through June 30th.
