Art/Health Trials

CUNY has trials through May 31 to two new Wilson databases. Art Museum Image Gallery includes over 155,000 images of paintings, sculpture, and photographs from international museum collections. Current Issues in Health includes articles on 80 health-related topics, including many of interest to those in biology, environmental science, and psychology.


Help Wanted: Library Desk Coordinator

DUTIES: Primary service contact with library users during evening and weekend hours

· Charges and discharges library material

· Assesses, collects and records fines for lost books

· Registers new patrons and updates current patron records

· Sends out notices and follows-up on overdue or lost library materials

· Recalls books needed for reserve; places holds

· Communicates with a variety of Graduate Center offices

· Packages books to be returned to other CUNY colleges

· Places materials on reserve

· Helps library users find library material

· Returns reserve items to faculty at the end of each semester

· Maintains order of Reserve collection

REQUIREMENTS: Familiarity with computer applications and software; proficiency with Microsoft Windows desktop. Pleasant manner, good judgment and excellent communication and customer service skills including attention to detail, organizational skills, sound reasoning and judgment. Preference given to those with basic knowledge of library circulation & reserves operations. Familiarity with Library of Congress call number system also preferred.

HOURS: Weekend and evening hours; flexible work schedule

This session will cover the basics of using the online research management tool RefWorks. The web-based program, which is an online alternative to EndNote, is designed to help researchers gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies. If your defense is in sight, plan to attend one of these workshops to learn the dissertation deposit process including depositing a copy of your dissertation electronically. Need help organizing your references and creating bibliographies? The EndNote program allows you to store and manage references. EndNote can also import citations from online databases. Computer Facilities unavailable 8/15-8/17 evenings

As previously announced, new carpeting installation is currently underway on the first floor of the library and in some portions of the second floor. Library hours have been reduced during this project in order to allow the work to be done safely and before students return for the new semester.  

Library hours for the remainder of this week are:

Wed–Fri, Aug 13-17    10 am – 5 pm

Due to last week’s flooding and the subsequent need to re-locate computer classes and related events, the computer lab located in Room 6418 will NOT be available after the library closes at 5pm as originally planned.

We apologize to the inconvenience caused by this disruption of service.

Introduction to Library Services

Designed for new Grad Center students who missed the student orientation session August 21, this session introduces the library website, licensed databases and full-text resources, intra-CUNY requesting, Electronic Reserve, off-campus online research, Interlibrary Loan and more. A GC network userid/pwd and a GC Library barcode are helpful but not necessary to attend.
