CUNY+, the catalog of the holdings of all CUNY libraries, is temporarily unavailable.  Whenever this occurs, use WorldCat to determine which CUNY libraries have a particular title.  Scroll to the bottom of the record of a book to see the beginning of its call number under Class Descriptors: LC. WorldCat cannot be used to determine if a book or audiovisual title is checked out.

As of April 16, the Graduate Center subscribes to 19th Century Masterfile, offering citations to over eight million articles, books, and other documents published before 1925.  Also known as Poole’s Plus, after the nineteenth-century periodical index, the database includes links to text from JSTOR, when available.

CUNY has trials through May 31 to two new Wilson databases. Art Museum Image Gallery includes over 155,000 images of paintings, sculpture, and photographs from international museum collections. Current Issues in Health includes articles on 80 health-related topics, including many of interest to those in biology, environmental science, and psychology.

JSTOR has a new look to its search interface. Select the Search button and then Basic to limit searches to specific disciplines. Select Advanced Search to limit searches by document type, date, and language, in addition to disciplines. Select Article Locator to find specific articles. The new MyJSTOR feature allows you to save searches. To export items to EndNote or RefWorks, you must create a MyJSTOR account. CUNY has recently acquired JSTOR’s Arts and Sciences V collection. Though it has only 18 additional journals at this point, it will include 120 titles by the end of 2009. This new version of JSTOR requires users to agree to terms and conditions of use before viewing PDF files. After agreeing to these terms, the PDF file will appear on the second page of the resulting screen.

Grove Art and Grove Music are now Oxford Art Online and Oxford Music Online. In addition to Grove Art, Oxford Art Online includes The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms, Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, and The Oxford Companion to Western Art. In addition to Grove Music, Oxford Music Online includes The Oxford Companion to Music and The Oxford Dictionary of Music. Each of these resources may be searched separately or in combination.

The Graduate Center has a trial of this reference work, accessible through ScienceDirect. In ScienceDirect, click the Books tab, change the Source box to Subscribed books, and perform a search. Results from Encyclopedia of Infant and Early Child Development will also appear in general ScienceDirect searching.

Short stories and folktales from Africa and the African Diaspora. Stories range from oral traditions dating back hundreds of years to contemporary tales are featured in Black Short Fiction and Folkore.  The Graduate Center’s trial of this database ends June 1.

Global warming, energy conservation, natural resources, and pollution are among the issues addressed by this database. Though the database is primarily bibliographic, it will include, during the summer of 2008, full text from all issues of Bioscience, Conservation Biology, Journal of Ecology, and Journal of Environmental Planning & Management. Links to these journals will be available soon in the library’s list of journals available electronically.

The Graduate Center has trials through April 18 to International Index to Music Periodicals Full Text and to International Index to Performing Arts Full Text. These databases are password protected, and the links will take you to a page where the passwords can be found.  International Index to Music Periodicals Full Text provides indexing and abstracting for over 430 international music periodicals, with full text from123.  International Index to Performing Arts Full Text indexes more than 240 international periodicals in drama, theater, musical theater, opera, dance, performance art, film, and television. Full text is available for 95 of these journals.
