Theatre in Video

As of May 15, the Graduate Center subscribes to Theatre in Video, providing 279 videos of plays or drama documentaries. 19th Century Masterfile

As of April 16, the Graduate Center subscribes to 19th Century Masterfile, offering citations to over eight million articles, books, and other documents published before 1925.  Also known as Poole’s Plus, after the nineteenth-century periodical index, the database includes links to text from JSTOR, when available.


Art/Health Trials

April 14, 2008

CUNY has trials through May 31 to two new Wilson databases. Art Museum Image Gallery includes over 155,000 images of paintings, sculpture, and photographs from international museum collections. Current Issues in Health includes articles on 80 health-related topics, including many of interest to those in biology, environmental science, and psychology.

New JSTOR Interface

JSTOR has a new look to its search interface. Select the Search button and then Basic to limit searches to specific disciplines. Select Advanced Search to limit searches by document type, date, and language, in addition to disciplines. Select Article Locator to find specific articles. The new MyJSTOR feature allows you to save searches. To export items to EndNote or RefWorks, you must create a MyJSTOR account. CUNY has recently acquired JSTOR’s Arts and Sciences V collection. Though it has only 18 additional journals at this point, it will include 120 titles by the end of 2009. This new version of JSTOR may require users to agree to terms and conditions of use before viewing PDF files. After agreeing to these terms, the PDF file will appear on the second page of the resulting screen.


Grove Name Change

Grove Art and Grove Music are now Oxford Art Online and Oxford Music Online. In addition to Grove Art, Oxford Art Online includes The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art Terms, Encyclopedia of Aesthetics, and The Oxford Companion to Western Art. In addition to Grove Music, Oxford Music Online includes The Oxford Companion to Music and The Oxford Dictionary of Music. Each of these resources may be searched separately or in combination.


Encyclopedia of Infant and Early Childhood Development

The Graduate Center has a trial of this reference work, accessible through ScienceDirect. In ScienceDirect, click the Books tab, change the Source box to Subscribed books, and perform a search. Results from Encyclopedia of Infant and Early Child Development will also appear in general ScienceDirect searching.


Black Short Fiction and Folklore

Short stories and folktales from Africa and the African Diaspora. Stories range from oral traditions dating back hundreds of years to contemporary tales are featured in Black Short Fiction and Folkore.  The Graduate Center’s trial of this database ends June 1.
